Treasures of a Desert Kingdom: The Royal Arts of Jodhpur, India, Ontario Toronto, Canada

Treasures of a Desert Kingdom: The Royal Arts of Jodhpur, India

March 9, 2019 to September 2, 2019
Garfield Weston Exhibition Hall, Level B2

From one of India’s greatest former kingdoms come the sumptuous royal arts of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Intricate paintings, dazzling jewellery, meticulous textiles and luxury decorative arts tell stories of conquest, kingship, strategic alliances, gender roles and life at court. These treasures were produced under the patronage of a dynasty that ruled this desert kingdom for centuries, until India’s independence in 1947. They reflect a cosmopolitan culture sustained by a delicate balance between local and external influences, tradition and modernity.

Drawn from the collection of the erstwhile royal family, most of these spectacular objects are on display outside their palace setting for the very first time.

This exhibition is organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston with the collaboration of the Mehrangarh Museum Trust, Jodphur, India.

7th International Congress on Sowa Rigpa,Singapore

7th International Congress on Sowa Rigpa

Sowa Rigpa: The Himalayan Science of Healing and Happiness

Sowa Rigpa originated in the high plateau of Tibet thousands of years ago and developed in the neighboring countries like northern India, Ladakh, Nepal, Bhutan and Mongolia. In Nepal it is known as Amchi Medicine. In Bhutan is known as indigenous or Buddhist Medicine. In Mongolia it is known as Mongolian Medicine and in Tibet as Traditional Tibetan Medicine. Sowa Rigpa is a science of healing and it transcends nationalism, political issues or culturalism.

The 7th International Congress on Sowa Rigpa, Traditional Tibetan Medicine will be held from March 7 to 9, 2019 in Singapore (including a comprehensive additional program before and after the Congress days) and we look forward to welcome you to this timeless encounter of practitioners, scholars, cooperation partners and interested people in the field of Sowa Rigpa and other disciplines.

Let’s come together in the world’s greenest city with people from all over the globe to celebrate and experience our ‘Unity and Interconnection in Diversity’ working for the same goal, beyond borders and national or individual interests.

The inspiring motto “Science of Healing and Happiness” intends to broaden our scientific perspectives and to present Sowa Rigpa as a time-tested modern traditional Science with openness and concepts for a comprehensive interdisciplinarity, either on a level of medical science or with a complete spiritual system.

Singapore as one of the world’s most prosperous country and financial center seems to be the perfect location for this gathering. Being so densely populated, stress can build up quickly with urban modern lifestyle and high-cost living. To balance this, natural healing plays an important part in Singapore and we can find an extraordinary variety of traditional healing methods here who are working side by side.

This congress will present some of the best and experienced scholars and practitioners of Sowa Rigpa from around the globe, many of them from the root countries of Sowa Rigpa around the Himalayans plateau!

• Hear about the outstanding news in the field of Sowa Rigpa
• Attend workshop presentations with knowledge and techniques you can immediately apply in your stressful lifestyle
• Explore and experience the strength and flow of cooperation of a collective network
• Get inspired! This congress will inaugurate ways and opportunities for Sorig practitioners who are looking for new challenges and ways to cooperate.

This Congress will be a peaceful gathering of transcultural openness, based on mutual trust, altruism, engagement and compassion for all sentient beings around the world in this crazy time of separation.
Be part of it as you already are…..

This Congress will think about a healthy future of all and of our environment and will invite scholars, practitioners, scientists, artists and interested people from around the world to live their interconnection: Welcome to Singapore!

With most cordial greetings on behalf of the International Organizing Committee
Dr. Nida Chenagtsang (SKI Medical Director, Congress President)
Dr. Tam Nguyen (SKI Executive Director)
Jacqueline Yu (SKI Head of Activities, President of Sorig Khang Singapore)
