CIBSE NSW | Modern Slavery – Are you prepared?
In this interactive presentation, Robin Mellon (Supply Chain Sustainability School), Davina Rooney (Stockland) and Kate Harris (GECA) will:
• explore the emergence of key social sustainability issues• clarify what ‘modern slavery’ really means in the human rights context• discuss the relevance of modern slavery to property, construction and infrastructure projects• outline what business leaders can do differently, and • explain where to go for guidance and more information.
The event registration and networking will start at 5:30, the speakers will start at 6:00 with the event finishing around 7:00pm
Robin has combined his passion for the environment, qualifications in property and finance, and understanding of construction and heritage to become one of Australia’s acknowledged experts on built environment sustainability. After many years running small businesses, and nine years with the GBCA working on Green Star rating tools, government relations and international advocacy, Robin is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, and a Judging Chair of the NSW Green Globe Awards and Australasian Green Gown Awards.
Davina Rooney is General Manager, Sustainability and Corporate Procurement at Stockland. Her role is to develop strategy and ensure sustainable practices and policies are adopted across Stockland, and implement corporate purchasing strategies. Davina is an engineer and has extensive experience in sustainability and building consulting.
Davina has a variety of sustainability experience, from environmental projects, not-for profit boards and overseas community development work, spending 8 months working in the Indian Himalayas on the construction of a school which won multiple international awards. Davina has been recognised by industry awards including NAWIC NSW Sustainability 2016, PCA 2014 Future Leaders Award and Sydney University Engineering Young Alumni Award. She is currently Chair of the Property Council’s National Sustainability Roundtable and on the Green Star Steering Committee.
Kate Harris, CEO of GECA is passionate about leadership, capacity building and education aimed at finding sustainable solutions for the future.
Kate is also Vice Chair of the Living Future Institute of Australia (LIFA), Non Executive Director of ALCAS- Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society, an Executive member for ASBEC- the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council and a Director of the Global Ecolabelling Network.With a Masters in Social Ecology and graduate of the Asialink Leaders Program, Kate also draws on her diverse experience in the performing arts, executive coaching, cultural change and organisational development, helping individuals, organisations and communities to create systems change for a better future.

What’s the dress code?
The majority of people come straight from work so whatever you wear professionally is fine.
When should I arrive?
Registrations starts from 5:30pm for a 6pm start, If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the start you will probably miss our introduction and unsettle our guest speakers, so please try to be prompt.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
